VOICE OF THE WEEK

FROM THE FRIDAY NEWSLETTER
I stood in the back of that Bowness town hall with my hands shaking so hard I had to grip the chair. My kid walks to school past that intersection on 53rd every day. Every single day, I've watched cars roll through that crosswalk without stopping. Every day, I held my breath. That night, I did something I'd never done โ€” I put my hand up. They called my name. I spoke. Three minutes. My voice cracked. It felt like standing on the edge of something terrifying. Six months later, I was driving with my daughter and she said "Mom, they built the crosswalk." I pulled over. I actually cried. Nobody told me it was because of me. Maybe it wasn't. But someone had to be the first voice in that room saying it wasn't safe. I was that person. And my daughter gets to walk to school without me dying inside. That's what showing up means.
